By As schools in Lagos State reopen for the new academic session, the Lagos State Safety Commission has called on students to prioritise safety in their daily activities.
In a statement issued by the Commission, the Director-General, Mr. Lanre Mojola, congratulated students on the start of a new term while stressing that personal safety, health, and well-being are fundamental to achieving academic excellence.
“We encourage every student to be safety conscious, safety aware and never safety averse. From road use to classroom conduct, from laboratory practices to sporting activities, safety should be your constant companion,” Mojola said.
He advised students to pay close attention to their environment, particularly when commuting, and to avoid distractions such as the use of mobile phones when crossing roads. He also urged adherence to school safety rules, including fire drills, laboratory regulations, and emergency procedures.
According to him, maintaining good hygiene practices such as hand washing and proper waste disposal is crucial in preventing illness. He further encouraged students to report unsafe practices, bullying, or potential hazards to school authorities, while also taking responsibility for their personal belongings and avoiding risky behaviours.
Mojola extended the call for safety to parents, guardians, and school administrators, urging them to support students by reinforcing safety awareness and modelling responsible behaviour.
“The Agency remains committed to promoting a culture of safety across all sectors, ensuring that students grow not only in knowledge but also in responsibility and resilience,” he said.
