The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has shared a record N2.225 trillion as revenue for August 2025, marking the highest-ever disbursement to the three tiers of government and statutory recipients in Nigeria.
According to The Nation, this is the second consecutive month the allocation has crossed the N2 trillion mark. The revenue was shared at the FAAC meeting held in Abuja, and was supported by growth in oil and gas royalties, value-added tax (VAT), and common external tariff (CET) levies.
A communiqué issued after the meeting showed that gross federation revenue for the month stood at N3.635 trillion. From this, N124.839 billion was deducted as cost of collection, while N1.285 trillion was earmarked for transfers, interventions, refunds, and savings.
Out of the total distributable revenue of N2.225 trillion, N1.478 trillion came from statutory revenue, N672.903 billion from VAT, N32.338 billion from the Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL), and N41.284 billion from Exchange Difference.
From statutory revenue, the Federal Government received N684.462 billion, states got N347.168 billion, and local councils N267.652 billion. Oil-producing states also received N179.311 billion as 13 per cent derivation.
From VAT, the Federal Government collected N100.935 billion, states received N336.452 billion, while local governments shared N235.516 billion.
The EMTL allocation gave N4.851 billion to the Federal Government, N16.169 billion to states, and N11.318 billion to local governments.
From the exchange difference of N41.284 billion, the Federal Government received N19.799 billion, states received N10.042 billion, and local governments got N7.742 billion. In addition, N3.701 billion was shared to oil-producing states as derivation.
