Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Åberg will lead Team Europe out in the Saturday foursomes, with captain Luke Donald sticking to the partnerships that delivered a dream start at Bethpage Black.

The duo produced a stunning performance on Friday morning, dismantling world No 1 Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley as Europe claimed their first opening-session Ryder Cup lead since 2004. They will once again take the top match, scheduled for 7.10am local time (12.10pm UK).

Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Åberg will face New York native Cam Young and Bryson DeChambeau, who lost both of his matches on the opening day, Captain Luke Donald has retained the same four European partnerships from Friday morning, but shuffled the order for Saturday’s foursomes.

Team Europe hold a 5.5–2.5 advantage heading into day two and need 8.5 more points to retain the Ryder Cup, or nine to claim a first away victory since 2012. Keegan Bradley’s American side must collect 12 points over the remaining two days to secure the trophy.

Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood will renew their battle with Collin Morikawa and Harris English, having cruised to a 5&4 win in Friday’s opener. Meanwhile, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele the only U.S. pair to win in foursomes face Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton.

World No 1 Scottie Scheffler, despite two defeats on day one, keeps his place alongside Russell Henley, with the duo lining up against Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland.

Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Sepp Straka and Rasmus Højgaard sit out Saturday morning for Team Europe, while the United States bench Justin Thomas their most experienced player along with Sam Burns, JJ Spaun and Ben Griffin.

After an impressive opening day, Europe captain Luke Donald hailed his side’s “incredible” start to the Ryder Cup, while U.S. skipper Keegan Bradley insisted there is still plenty of time for a comeback.

“To win this morning was huge for us and we all know how important it is to get off to a good start,” Donald said, 3-1 was a great result, and the top two matches especially gave us momentum and inspiration.

The players dug deep to win the session again this afternoon, that’s another tick in the box, and I’m very happy with where we are.

Bradley remained upbeat despite trailing: “The boys played really good this afternoon. Europe made a lot of putts, but I’m happy with how we’re playing. Hopefully tomorrow it turns and ours drop.

“We’ve only played 28 per cent of the points, this is just the first quarter, We’ve still got three quarters to go, and I’ve got a lot of faith in my boys.”
