Real Madrid are already planning for next summer’s transfer window, with several new arrivals expected. While a central defender remains a top priority due to the uncertain futures of Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba, strengthening the midfield is also part of the plan.
One confirmed addition will be Nico Paz, who is set to return to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2026. Real Madrid chose not to activate his buy-back clause this summer but intend to bring him back next year, according to Diario AS. However, he won’t be the only midfielder joining the squad.
The club also want to sign a defensive midfielder to provide competition for Aurelien Tchouameni. The report states that Adam Wharton and Chema Andres are the two main names being considered for that role.
Real Madrid have shown strong interest in Adam Wharton in recent months, viewing the Crystal Palace midfielder as an ideal fit to strengthen Xabi Alonso’s options in the holding role. However, signing him would be expensive, and Madrid face stiff competition from Liverpool and Manchester United, who are also monitoring the 20-year-old.

Meanwhile, a return for Chema Andres could prove far more affordable. Madrid had initially hoped the Stuttgart midfielder’s move would generate significant funds, as they still own 50% of his rights from his summer departure. But his impressive form in Germany has led the club to consider bringing him back.

Chema’s return would be much cheaper for Real Madrid, he could be re-signed for around €10 million, compared to over €80 million for Wharton. That price difference could influence their decision, though Madrid’s hierarchy has never shied away from spending big when they believe a player is worth it.
