Lagos, Nigeria — The Lagos State Government, in an announcement shared today on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, has declared the commencement of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) online registration and payment exercise, scheduled to begin on Monday, January 26, 2026.
The registration exercise, which will run until Friday, March 27, 2026, is being coordinated by the Lagos State Examinations Board as part of the state’s efforts to deploy technology in streamlining examination processes and eliminating the physical presence of school proprietors at the Board.
Speaking on the exercise, the Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr Adebayo Orunsolu, stated that all participating schools are required to use the newly issued School Code for the registration of candidates.
He explained that public junior secondary schools are to complete their registration using the Board’s approved offline data capturing application.
According to him, approved private junior secondary schools, institutions operating with special permission, and Continuing Education Centres (CEC) are to carry out payment and registration through the Board’s official online portal, where login credentials will be generated.
Mr Orunsolu disclosed that approved private junior secondary schools and approved public Continuing Education Centres will pay a registration fee of ₦10,000 per candidate, while junior secondary schools operating with special permission and private CECs are required to pay ₦15,000 per candidate.
He further advised schools presenting candidates with special needs, including visual impairment or albinism, to notify the Lagos State Examinations Board in writing ahead of the examination to allow for adequate preparations.
The Registrar urged all schools to strictly comply with the approved guidelines for registration and payment, warning that late registration may attract penalties.
He added that any additional information would be communicated to schools through their respective zonal officers.
