Abuja, Nigeria
A civil society organisation, Generation for Societal Change (GSC), is teaming up with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to promote national values and build a generation of patriotic Nigerians. The partnership aims to mobilise citizens to adopt a value-driven culture as a foundation for sustainable development.
The campaign, supported by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), will focus on promoting seven national ethics: discipline, integrity, dignity of labour, social justice, religious tolerance, self-reliance, and patriotism.
Speaking at a press conference, Global Coordinator Okechukwu Nworah said the goal is to internalise these values in homes, workplaces, and schools, ultimately projecting Nigeria’s image at home and abroad.
”Our goal is to ensure that these values are internalize in our homes and schools in order to project the image of Nigeria especially on the global stage. To achieve this, there’s need for collaboration between different government agencies, civil society organizations and spirited individuals in the society.”
He added that special projects have already being initiated in schools and via different media platforms, to share the true story of Nigeria to Nigerians and the wider world.
Also speaking, the Abuja Coordinator of (GSC), Sultan Kamal, harps on the need to promote values and ethics in Nigeria. He reinforced the earlier stance of the Global Coordinator of the organization, maintaining that the need for value reorientation cannot be overemphasized.
”The dearth of positive value system among young Nigerians calls for constant sensitization to ensure that the Image of Nigeria is well projected worldwide.”
