Oyo, Nigeria — The Oyo State Police Command announced today that it has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally made firearm during a stop-and-search operation carried out within the Ibadan metropolis.

The suspects were intercepted by operatives of the Command’s Operations Department while riding an unregistered tricycle, popularly known as keke, during a routine security check aimed at preventing crime and ensuring public safety.

A search of the tricycle led to the discovery of a locally fabricated single-barrel gun, which had been modified for easy concealment. The three occupants were immediately taken into custody.

Police identified the suspects as Abdulrahman Rasheed, 19; Biodun Fatai, 18; and Muiz Salawudeen, 18. Following their arrest, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, ordered that the suspects and the recovered weapon be transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for further investigation.

During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in several robbery incidents in Ibadan and other parts of Oyo State, including the snatching of mobile phones and motorcycles at gunpoint.

The police said the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded. The Command urged residents to continue supporting security efforts by providing timely and credible information, assuring the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
