‎The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has debunked rumours of his possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following his meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Thursday. The meeting was confirmed in a post on X by the Special Assistant to the president on Communication and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

‎Speaking to State House correspondents after the close door meeting, the Governor said he is comfortable in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and some issues happening in the country require a bi-partisan approach. “I am comfortable in the PDP,” he stated.

‎The Governor maintained that some issues of national interest go beyond party affiliation, noting that his discussions with the President were not about politics.

‎“We may have issues in this country where you need a bipartisan approach, where there won’t be an issue of APC talking alone or PDP talking alone; where we will have to look at what is the best foot forward in the interest of our nation. So, when you get to that junction, you need everybody on board,” he said.

‎Makinde further clarified that the meeting focused on issues of governance, adding that Tinubu is the President of Nigeria and not just the APC.

‎“Well, the President is the President of Nigeria, not the President of the APC, and we’re talking about governance here,” Makinde said. “So I came to discuss with the President some governance issues, basically,” he maintained.
