Abuja, Nigeria- The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cleared up rumors that students already studying in universities are not allowed to register for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or Direct Entry (DE).

JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, made this statement in Abuja yesterday, saying the rumors are false and were spread by people on social media just to get attention.

He explained that the 2026 UTME/DE registration clearly asks candidates to state if they are already enrolled in a university. This is part of JAMB’s rules to prevent a student from holding two admissions at the same time.

Dr. Benjamin added that it is not against the law for someone already in a university to register for UTME or DE. However, if a candidate does not disclose their current admission, that is considered breaking the law.

According to him, once a student gets a new admission after disclosing their previous one, the old admission automatically becomes void. No one is allowed to have two admissions at the same time under Nigeria’s admission rules.

He also said that asking candidates to disclose their existing admissions has helped reduce the problem of students taking exams professionally while already enrolled in school.

Dr. Benjamin warned that anyone who hides their current admission risks losing both admissions if JAMB’s system finds out. He encouraged the public to always follow official JAMB guidelines and ignore false information online.
