Drama in Ganye as Fintiri Faces Heckling During PDP Stakeholders’ MeetingA mild drama unfolded on Tuesday in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State when Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri was briefly interrupted and heckled by a section of the crowd while addressing supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ganye, which shares boundaries with Jada Local Government Area the hometown of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar forms part of the Adamawa South Senatorial District alongside Mayo-Belwa and Toungo LGAs. Political tension has reportedly been simmering in the area following an alleged fallout between Governor Fintiri and Atiku Abubakar, who recently defected from the PDP to the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Midway into his speech during the state tour stop in Ganye, the governor was interrupted by a group of youths chanting in Hausa, “Ba ma yi, ba ma yi,” a phrase signifying rejection or disapproval.
Governor Fintiri responded immediately in Hausa, saying, “Kai ma ba a yin ka. Ba ka yi; dama wa ya ce ka yi?” loosely translated as, “We are also not with you. Who even asked you to be with us?”
He added that no individual or group had a monopoly on disorderly conduct, stressing that his administration would not tolerate disrespect toward constituted authorities.
As the chanting continued, the governor directed the disc jockey to play music, briefly danced, and thereafter exited the stage.
Earlier in his address, Fintiri explained that the ongoing statewide tour was designed to engage residents at the grassroots, assess the performance of his administration and that of local government council chairmen, and identify areas requiring improvement for better service delivery.
He reaffirmed that the PDP remained firmly in control of Adamawa State and in tune with the aspirations of the people, pledging to deliver more dividends of democracy. The governor also urged voters to massively support PDP candidates in the local government elections scheduled for June 2026.
“Our local government elections will hold in June, and we are confident of victory in all the 226 wards and the 21 local government councils,” he said. “Some people resort to social media to abuse the government, but as a responsible administration, we remain focused on delivering development to our people.”
According to him, the tour will also serve as an avenue to commission completed local government projects, conduct on-the-spot assessments of council chairmen’s performance, and engage stakeholders through interactive town hall meetings aimed at addressing challenges and strengthening governance at the grassroots.
