FCTA Area Council Election: PCRC Tasks media On Balance  Reportage

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has charged the media to ensure responsible, balanced and positive reportage during the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections slated for February 21 to promotes peace, development, and national unity during and after the election.

The national chairman of (PCRC), Mogaji Olaniyi gave the charge today at an interactive meeting on security and peaceful conduct of the polls.

“The PCRC will work with the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Nigerian police. The election will be free and fair. No form of thuggery will be tolerated. It will be a crime-free election,” he said.

Olaniyi emphasized that the meeting was to sensitise residents that PCRC would be on the ground to support the police commission in FCT. He added that there would be no hiding place for criminals in the FCT and advised them to desist from all forms of negative vices.

“We will use our instrument of office to fish criminals out because we are the closest to the public. There is no hiding place for any criminal. We will expose them,” he said.

Also speaking during the interactive session, (FCT) PCRC chairman, Rufus Ebegba, urged Nigerians, especially Abuja residents, to support the federal government’s security architecture under President Bola Tinubu.

Ebegba called for support from the federal government’s security initiatives, highlighting the crucial role of security to  national economic growth and development. However, he urged all political parties and candidates to conduct peaceful and responsible campaigns that respect the rule of law.
