A coalition of political and civil society groups in Adamawa State has commended Senator Abbas for his outstanding legislative record and developmental interventions, describing him as a transformative leader with the capacity to steer the state toward sustainable growth.
The coalition highlighted the senator’s sponsorship of the National Hajj Commission Act (Amendment) Bill as well as his motion on electricity billing reform, which was subsequently adopted by the Senate. According to the groups, these initiatives underscore his commitment to policies that directly impact citizens’ welfare.
Particular emphasis was placed on his motion on flood control in Adamawa State, which addressed the recurring destruction caused by flooding from the River Benue and the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon. The coalition described his advocacy for the construction of the Dasin Hausa Dam as a “life-saving intervention,” noting that it would protect communities in Fufore, Yola North, Yola South, Girei, Numan, Lamurde and Demsa local government areas from perennial flooding.
Beyond his legislative duties, the statement cited numerous constituency projects facilitated by Senator Abbas, including rural electrification schemes, construction of schools, provision of potable water, road rehabilitation and installation of solar streetlights across several local government areas. His efforts in promoting youth employment, securing federal appointments and facilitating recruitment into security agencies were also acknowledged as part of his broader commitment to human capital development.
The coalition further praised his economic empowerment programmes, stating that thousands of women and youths have benefited from grants, support for small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), scholarships and other humanitarian interventions. These initiatives, the groups said, reflect a leadership approach anchored on compassion, accountability and community-driven development.
They also noted his professional credentials as a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner and forensic expert, describing his background as a critical asset for prudent management of public resources and effective anti-corruption efforts.
The groups concluded by calling on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unite behind Senator Abbas ahead of the 2027 governorship election, insisting that he represents the party’s strongest chance of victory.
“We call on all Adamawa people to rally behind him and urge the PDP leadership to award him the governorship ticket. He is undoubtedly the best choice to secure a resounding victory and lead our state to greater heights,” the statement said.
