Kwara, Nigeria- The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday announced the arrest of 10 individuals over illegal mining activities along the Ilorin–Ogbomosho axis in Kwara State.

According to the commission, operatives from its Ilorin Zonal Directorate carried out the arrests following intelligence reports on unauthorized mineral excavation and transportation within the state. The suspects include nine truck drivers and one escort, who were intercepted during a coordinated operation.

The EFCC said minerals recovered from them include lithium, tin, and lepidolite, adding that the suspects did not have the required licences, permits, or regulatory approvals for the mining activities. Trucks loaded with the extracted minerals were also seized.

The agency stated that the suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
