Abuja, Nigeria
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians of its preparedness ahead of the 2027 general election, hinting that the commission had completed work on the election schedule and activities.
The National Chairman of the commission, Prof. Josh Amupitan made the revelation on Wednesday during a meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. This is despite delay in the approval of the modified Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly.
Even though the time for the commencement of activities were not revealed to journalists, Prof. Amupitan acknowledged that INEC has submitted presentations to the National Assembly, admitting that some items on the timetable of operations may be influenced by the time lawmakers amend the electoral act.
However, the INEC boss said the commission will rely on the already exiting law for its activities.
