Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday received a high-level international delegation in Maiduguri to showcase ongoing development and humanitarian projects across the state.
The delegation comprised ambassadors from India, Egypt, Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey, Malaysia, and Qatar. They were accompanied by the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Malick Fall, and Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro.
During the visit, the team toured several projects initiated by the Zulum administration, including schools, vocational training centres, and health facilities. The tour provided an opportunity for the visitors to assess progress made in rebuilding communities affected by years of insurgency.
Officials of the United Nations and the Federal Government commended the state government for its commitment to sustainable development and human capital investment.
UN Resident Coordinator Mohamed Malick Fall noted that significant transformation is taking place in Borno despite security challenges.
“There are things happening here that are truly transformative. The investment in education clearly demonstrates a vision to address the root causes of the crisis,” he said.
Minister Bernard Doro also praised Governor Zulum’s leadership, describing the projects as impactful and forward-looking.
“I am very happy with what I have seen. The Governor has shown strong leadership, and these excellent facilities are clearly designed to lift people out of poverty,” he stated.
The visit highlights growing international confidence in Borno State’s efforts to combine humanitarian assistance with long-term development initiatives aimed at rebuilding lives and restoring stability.
