Lagos, Nigeria- The Lagos State Government this night announced the commencement of an eight month rehabilitation of the Iju and Adiyan Water Treatment Plants to improve efficiency and increase access to safe drinking water across the state.
In a statement, the government said the project, Rehabilitation of Iju Headworks and Akute Intake Station Lots 1, 2 and 3, will be carried out by the Lagos Water Corporation as part of efforts to strengthen water supply infrastructure and improve service delivery. The rehabilitation is scheduled to run from February 2026 to October 2026.
According to the statement, the Managing Director of Lagos Water Corporation, Engr Mukhtaar Tijani, who was represented by the Executive Director Operations, Engr Mrs Helen Omolanke Taiwo, said the rehabilitation aligns with the corporation five year strategic business plan launched in December 2024. The work will focus mainly on pump replacement and upgrades approved by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo Olu.
The statement also quoted the Director of Production, Engr Agiri Mustapha, as describing the rehabilitation as an important project for improving water supply across Lagos. He explained that engaging original manufacturers with sole franchise rights followed past challenges with pump installations and was aimed at ensuring quality and durability.
It added that contractors and manufacturers involved in the project include KSB Pumps and Valves Nigeria Limited, Wilo Pumps Nigeria Limited, and Springfield Electric Limited, who assured the corporation of timely and quality delivery, as well as training for personnel and a two year equipment management support period after completion.
