The Gombe State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Livestock Innovation Corporation (LIC) of New Zealand aimed at modernising livestock production, improving climate resilience and expanding economic opportunities in the sector.

‎The agreement was sealed after a two-day technical visit by a Gombe State delegation, led by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, to LIC’s innovation facilities in Hamilton, New Zealand.

‎The visit provided an opportunity to explore advanced, data-driven livestock management systems and sustainable production practices.

‎According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Director-General on Press Affairs, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, the MoU establishes a framework for collaboration on joint research initiatives, capacity building and technology transfer.

‎The partnership is also expected to involve Gombe State University and explore innovations in genetics and biotechnology, including the possible introduction of New Zealand dairy and beef genetics to the state.

‎Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Yahaya described the partnership as a significant step toward achieving Gombe State’s agricultural transformation goals. He emphasised that innovation and technology are essential to improving productivity and sustainability in the livestock sector.

‎The governor noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to revitalising livestock development through the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.

‎Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, commended the collaboration, stating that it reflects the policy direction of the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises technological advancement, sustainability and measurable economic growth.

‎On behalf of LIC, International Dairy Development Manager, Jason Schrier, welcomed the agreement, describing it as a model of effective international cooperation in livestock development.

‎He expressed confidence that the partnership would combine LIC’s technical expertise with Gombe State’s reform agenda to deliver lasting benefits to farmers.

‎Founded in 1909, the Livestock Innovation Corporation is a global leader in agricultural technology and herd improvement, offering advanced genetics, herd management software and advisory services to dairy farmers around the world.
