The Bauchi State Government has formally notified the public of a road crash involving journalists from the state and announced that it has assumed full responsibility for their medical treatment.

‎Those affected include correspondents of Channels Television, African Independent Television (AIT), and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), as well as members of the Correspondents’ Chapel and staff of Bauchi State Television Authority (BATV) and Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC).

The incident occurred on Friday along the Bauchi–Yelwan Duguri Road while the journalists were on official duty covering the commissioning of projects executed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC). The event was attended by the Minister of State for Regional Development and the Managing Director of the NEDC.

‎In a statement, the government described the accident as unfortunate but expressed gratitude that no life was lost.

‎“Though the crash was severe, we thank Almighty Allah that there was no fatality. The affected journalists were promptly evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where they are receiving comprehensive medical attention,” the statement read.

Medical authorities confirmed that while some of the victims sustained fractures and bruises, they are responding positively to treatment.

‎Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, on behalf of the government and people of Bauchi State, expressed deep sympathy with the injured journalists, their families, colleagues, and media organisations.

‎He acknowledged the sacrifices journalists make in carrying out their professional duties, often under difficult and risky conditions.

‎“We are profoundly concerned by this unfortunate incident and deeply appreciate the commitment of journalists to their responsibilities,” the governor said.

The government further assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and working with hospital management to ensure the victims receive the best possible care until they fully recover.

‎The statement, signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, concluded with prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured journalists and strength for them and their families during the challenging period
