The Adamawa State Government has begun the disbursement of financial support to 24,000 schoolgirls across the state under a Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme aimed at boosting girl-child education. Each beneficiary will receive a total of N60,000 in phased payments to help reduce financial barriers to schooling.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri officially launched the initiative at Government Secondary School, Fufore, describing it as a strategic intervention to expand access to education for vulnerable girls. He explained that beneficiaries would receive N40,000 in the first term, followed by N10,000 each in the second and third terms.

The governor noted that continued participation in the programme would depend on a minimum school attendance rate of 75 per cent. He stressed that the initiative is designed to encourage retention in school and to ensure that more girls complete their education.

Governor Fintiri said the programme aligns with his administration’s broader commitment to education, including the regular payment of WAEC and NECO examination fees for students. He reaffirmed his resolve to support girls in achieving their academic dreams and pursuing careers in fields such as medicine, engineering and other professions.

He further disclosed that the scheme accommodates out-of-school girls, married girls and young mothers, urging them to return to school and take advantage of the opportunity to complete their education. The governor also announced that tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions would remain stable in recognition of current economic challenges faced by parents.

During the visit to Fufore, the governor commissioned several projects, including a Fresh Air Gate, Legislative Block, PDP Secretariat, Cottage Hospital and Government Lodge. He said the projects were part of efforts to strengthen governance, healthcare delivery and infrastructure in the local government area.
The Chairperson of Fufore Local Government Area, Mrs. Peace Audu, commended the governor for his people-oriented leadership and commitment to grassroots development. She highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the council, including empowerment programmes for women and youths, rehabilitation of schools and health facilities, construction of roads and markets, installation of solar street lights and improvement of water supply systems across communities.
