Nigerian youths are currently protesting at the National Assembly, following the Senate’s rejection of real time electronic transmission of election results. Despite the presence of heavy security presence from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Army, and Civil Defence, the protesters are not deterred.

Prominent among the protesters is the 2023 presidential candidate of the labour party Peter Obi and activist Aisha Yesufu among other personalities.

Speaking to the protesters, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi stated that Nigerian youths must rise to take back their country. He emphasized that the Senate have no excuse to turn down the electronic transmission of election results.

“The world is changing and we must change with the world. What’s the excuse for turning down the electronic transmission of election results? Nigerians must rise to take their country back,” he maintained.

Human Rights Activist, Aisha Yesufu who also spoke with newsmen at the protest ground lambasted Police and other security personnel stationed to block the protesters from gaining access to the National Assembly complex. She emphasized that the only command they should work with is that from the constitution.

“I see the policeman in the car, yes you’re looking at me. But guess what, when you go home today and your son or your daughter says to you, why did you stop those who are fighting for us?, she queried.

“Sir, what would you say to your child You’re religious and I heard someone say that they were giving command. The only command you have is that of the constitution,” she added.

Recall that the Senate on Wednesday, February 4 reportedly rejected the electronic transmission of election results compulsory.
