The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works, has continued to roll out critical infrastructure projects nationwide under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

‎Since May 2023, the administration has prioritised the rehabilitation of major roads and bridges aimed at improving connectivity, road safety, and economic growth. These interventions are designed to ease transportation challenges and enhance the living conditions of Nigerians.

‎As part of these efforts, the North-East Zone National Media Tour and commissioning of emergency projects commenced in Bauchi State on February 8, 2026. The tour featured an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of the 35-kilometre Bauchi–Gombe Road, a major corridor linking Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Taraba States. Awarded in 2024 at a cost of nearly N40 billion, the project is already reducing accidents and travel time while promising long-term economic benefits for the region upon completion.

‎The ministry also commissioned two completed emergency intervention projects along the Bauchi–Darazo–Kari–Potiskum Road.

‎ These include the repair of collapsed culverts at Konkiyel Town and Sauke Village, both of which had caused persistent flooding and disruption of movement. The interventions have restored hydraulic flow, protected farmlands and communities, and ensured safer and uninterrupted use of the federal highway.

‎Representing the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, at the commissioning events, Bauchi NUJ Chairman Comrade Umar Saidu described the projects as highly impactful. He noted that they would bring lasting relief to affected communities, prevent recurring flood damage, and improve socio-economic activities across Bauchi State and the North-East. He urged stakeholders to support government efforts to sustain the projects.

‎The Federal Controller of Works in Bauchi State, Engineer Bashiru Adamu, explained that the projects form part of 260 emergency interventions initiated nationwide by the current administration. He emphasised that the culverts and drainage systems were strategically executed to mitigate flooding, protect federal assets, and address the effects of climate change. According to him, these structures are essential to keeping roads and communities safe and accessible.

‎Stakeholders, including COREN and the Nigerian Society of Engineers, commended the Federal Government for its prompt action and professional execution of the projects. The contractor, Triacta Nigeria Limited, assured that work on the Bauchi–Gombe Road is progressing as scheduled. Host communities also expressed gratitude for the interventions, noting that the projects have ended years of flooding challenges and improved access to farms and markets.
