Lagos, Nigeria- Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Adetokunbo Wahab, announced today that the State Government has intensified greening efforts across Lagos, with over 20,000 trees planted in the last two years through the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK).
The Commissioner explained that tree planting is a long term environmental strategy whose results are not immediately visible, noting that such initiatives require time before their full impact can be seen. He encouraged residents to monitor ongoing landscaping and greening activities through LASPARK’s official communication channels.
Mr. Wahab also stated that the Lagos State Government has issued a firm directive halting illegal wetland sandfilling across the State.
According to him, enforcement teams are actively implementing the directive, with stop work notices already served on offenders, while continuous monitoring is being carried out to ensure compliance.
The Commissioner further noted that the government acknowledges its responsibility in protecting the environment and remains committed to taking appropriate actions to address environmental violations.
He added that residents are also expected to support government efforts by reporting environmental infractions and safeguarding their immediate surroundings, stressing that achieving a cleaner and safer Lagos requires collective responsibility.
