Lagos, Nigeria- The Lagos State Government announced today the inauguration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Clubs in public primary schools as part of its efforts to promote sustainability awareness and responsible citizenship among young learners.

According to the State Government, the initiative is designed to embed sustainability values into basic education and encourage pupils to understand their roles in building a just, inclusive, and sustainable society.

The government emphasised that the SDGs Clubs are intended to move sustainable development principles from policy frameworks into everyday learning activities, helping pupils develop positive values, creativity, and problem-solving skills from an early age.

It stated that similar SDGs Clubs have already been established in tertiary institutions, including Lagos State University, and in public secondary schools across the state, where students are reportedly involved in climate action, social inclusion, and community based projects.

The Lagos State Government further noted that the programme aligns with its education reforms and Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education, adding that the initiative would complement existing school clubs and strengthen value-based learning in public primary schools.
