The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has officially handed over several completed projects to the Taraba State Government, including a renovated and fully equipped 60-bed ward at Zing General Hospital.
The commissioning was performed by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari, who commended the Commission for its sustained support to states in the North-East region. He noted that the upgraded health facility would significantly improve healthcare delivery and provide a better working environment for medical personnel.
In ddition to the hospital ward, the Commission delivered three newly constructed two-bedroom staff quarters. According to NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, the intervention also included fencing of the staff quarters, installation of three boreholes, and provision of solar-powered lighting to enhance infrastructure and security at the facility.
The delegation also inaugurated a newly constructed building for the Institute of Entrepreneurship at Taraba State University, Jalingo. The complex features 14 offices, a conference hall, an archive, and two waiting rooms
Maigari encouraged students to take advantage of the centre to develop practical skills that would position them as job creators, reiterating the Federal Government’s commitment to youth empowerment and economic development across the region.
During a courtesy visit to the Government House in Jalingo, Governor Agbu Kefas, represented by his Chief of Staff, Jeji Williams, expressed appreciation for the Commission’s interventions. He emphasized the need for continued collaboration, particularly in the area of road and bridge infrastructure.
The Federal Government delegation also inspected ongoing reconstruction work at Namnai Bridge, which collapsed more than a year ago following heavy rainfall.
The nine-span, 180-metre bridge, including a two-kilometre approach road, commenced last month and is projected for completion before the end of 2026.
The project is expected to restore critical connectivity and boost economic activities in the affected communities.
The NEDC reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating recovery, rebuilding infrastructure, and improving livelihoods across Taraba State and the wider North-East region.
