President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed a full-scale investigation into the recurring fire incidents at Singer Market in Kano, following the latest inferno that razed large sections of the popular food market over the weekend.
The fire, which reportedly started on Saturday evening, continued into the early hours of Sunday, destroying goods and property worth millions of naira and leaving scores of traders devastated.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed deep concern over the repeated outbreaks, noting that such incidents have consistently plunged traders into hardship and uncertainty.
Tinubu emphasised the need for authorities to uncover both the immediate and underlying causes of the persistent fires to prevent further occurrences and safeguard livelihoods.
The statement also disclosed that the President had earlier contacted Abba Kabir Yusuf, Governor of Kano State, to obtain a firsthand situation report on the tragic incident.
He assured affected traders of the Federal Government’s concern and reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and economic activities across the country.
