Vice President Kashim Shettima has been directed to lead a high-powered Federal Government delegation to Kano State following the devastating fire outbreak at Singer Market.

‎The directive was issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

‎The delegation is scheduled to depart Abuja on Monday to convey the President’s condolences to traders who reportedly lost goods worth billions of naira when the market was engulfed by flames over the weekend. The latest incident marks the second fire outbreak at the market within two weeks, raising fresh concerns over safety and fire prevention measures.

‎On behalf of the Federal Government, the delegation is expected to pledge financial assistance to support affected traders and collaborate with the Kano State Government to ensure the swift reopening of the market.

‎President Tinubu, during a telephone conversation with Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressed sympathy to the victims and the people of Kano State over the tragic incident.

‎Other members of the delegation include:

‎Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives

‎Barau Jibrin, Deputy Senate President

‎Kawu Ismaila, Senator

‎Abubakar Kabir Bichi, Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation

‎Bernard M. Doro, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs

‎Zubaida Umar, Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)

‎Meanwhile, President Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the recurring fire incidents at the market to determine their causes and prevent future occurrences.

‎Authorities say further updates will be provided as assessments of the damage continue.
