Bala Mohammed Appoints Late Channels TV Cameraman’s Wife into Bauchi Civil Service, Pledges Support to Family
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has approved the appointment of Mrs. Sarah Ben, wife of the late Kani Ben, into the Bauchi State civil service, as part of efforts to support the bereaved family.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Usman Shehu Usman, conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family and assured them of the state government’s continued support during this difficult period.
He disclosed that the governor had earlier visited injured journalists receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), following the tragic accident.
According to him, Governor Mohammed directed his personal physician to remain with the injured victims to ensure they receive adequate medical attention.
The commissioner, accompanied by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mukhtar Mohammed Gidado, paid glowing tribute to the late journalist, describing him as a dedicated professional who served with humility and commitment.
The deceased, whose full name was Pwakaniso Ben Sylvanus, was born on May 28, 1982, and passed away on February 15, 2026, after battling injuries sustained in a road accident along Duguri Road. The crash involved 14 individuals, including journalists from various media organizations, leaving several others injured.
In his tribute, Comrade Gidado described Ben as a quiet and diligent cameraman who understood that journalism goes beyond recording events to preserving history.
“He was committed to his calling. Many saw him as a gentle and dependable colleague. He documented events tirelessly — rain or shine, early mornings and late nights,” Gidado said.
Also speaking, Rt. Rev. Cletus Dading, Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), Abuja Diocese, expressed appreciation to the Bauchi State Governor for the compassionate gesture and prayed for divine blessings upon him.
The Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) also extended condolences to the family and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
The appointment of Mrs. Sarah Ben is widely seen as a demonstration of the Bauchi State Government’s solidarity with media professionals and their families in times of tragedy.
