Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has confirmed the death of six of its final-year Open and Distance Learning (ODL) nursing students who were involved in a road accident along the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road on Sunday, 22 February 2026.
The confirmation was contained in a special statement signed on Tuesday, February 24, by the University Registrar, Mrs Olayinka O. Balogun, which disclosed that the students were travelling in a commercial bus from Suleja, Niger State, to the university for their final examinations when the crash occurred at Otte, Kwara State.

The deceased were identified as Shehu Nana Firdawsi Hamza, Idris Jamila, Abdulraheem Maimunah Hamza, Blessing Kevwe, Owoicho Elizabeth and Aroke Ozavize Victoria.
The institution described the incident as devastating, noting that the loss had thrown the entire academic community into mourning. The Institution extended its condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased and called on members of the public to join in prayers for strength to bear the loss.
“While we grieve as an Institution, we also call on all members of the public to join us in prayer for fortitude for families, friends and colleagues to bear the irreparable loss. We pray that the memories of the departed will continue to inspire us to uphold the values of compassion, perseverance, and unity,” the statement read.
AfrikTimes had earlier reported that six 500-level nursing students, including a pregnant student, died in the crash, with the university yet to issue an official response at the time of the initial report.
