Omoyele Sowore, a politician and an activist wrote today on his social media platforms that he confronted the Minister of Works, David Umahi, at the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.

Sowore said the police command had been used as a venue where Umahi was allowed to face a woman who had accused him of owing her money and making advances toward her years earlier. He said the encounter took place inside a conference room at the command.

According to Sowore, the woman’s name is Tracy Nither Nicolas Ohiri, and she was arrested in Lagos on accusations of cyberbullying and later taken to Abuja, where she was detained. He said her accusation against Umahi involved a sum of N250 million which was not paid over a period spanning 12 years, which he described as a civil matter.

Sowore stated that the police handled the issue as a criminal case instead of a civil dispute. He said the woman was kept in custody while Umahi was brought into the police facility, where she was threatened and intimidated.

He said the situation changed when he and others arrived at the command, after which the meeting was stopped and Umahi left the premises visibly upset. Sowore added that despite Umahi’s departure, the police declined to grant the woman bail or release her.
