BACKGROUND

In the early hours of Monday February 16, a video surfaced online in which MIrabel alleged that she was raped in her apartment on Sunday, February 15. The emotional footage quickly went viral and sparked outrage, with many Nigerians demanding justice.
The development drew the attention of several public figures, as well as advocacy groups such as the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, which indicated interest in ensuring that the case was thoroughly investigated.
Following the viral post, she received widespread sympathy and monetary donations from members of the public after sharing her account details online.
However, doubts later emerged over the authenticity of her claims, particularly after an alleged recorded conversation with social media personality Martins Otse surfaced online, with claims that she admitted to fabricating parts of the story.
The police have yet to confirm these claims and maintain that investigations are ongoing.
