The National Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), Dr. Sanusi Abubakar, has revealed that the newly launched Livestock Service Centre (LSC) in Taraba State will operate under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to ensure long-term sustainability and operational efficiency.

‎Dr. Abubakar disclosed this during the official flag-off of the state-of-the-art facility in Sunkani, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area. He explained that the PPP framework—currently awaiting ratification by the World Bank—is strategically designed to prevent the centre from becoming a white elephant project.

‎According to him, the Livestock Service Centre is conceived as a commercially driven hub that will deliver integrated services to livestock farmers, boost productivity, and strengthen resilience across the livestock value chain.

‎Representing Governor Agbu Kefas at the ceremony, his Chief of Staff, Mr. Jeji Williams, described the initiative as a transformative intervention aimed at modernising livestock production in the state. He noted that the project would shift the sector from traditional subsistence herding to a more structured, high-yield, and commercially viable enterprise.

‎The governor expressed confidence that the centre would enhance food security, stimulate economic growth, and position Taraba among Nigeria’s leading livestock-producing states.

‎Earlier, the State L-PRES Project Coordinator, Mr. Hananiah Albert, outlined the major components of the facility. These include holding and grazing areas, working chutes, loading ramps, weighbridges, a veterinary clinic, isolation pens, and a dipping vat.

‎Additional infrastructure will feature Artificial Insemination (AI) stalls, vaccine storage units, feed and fodder sheds, a feed processing unit, as well as water and electricity supply systems, waste management facilities, and all-weather access roads.

‎Albert emphasised that the centre’s integrated services are expected to generate revenue, create employment opportunities, and significantly improve animal health and overall livestock productivity across Taraba State.
