The official social media accounts of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) announced today that the deadline for student loan applications has been extended, following increased interest from students across the country.
NELFUND stated that the application portal was initially to be closed on 27 February 2026. They also indicated that the extension would be to cover students who need additional time to complete applications, schools newly starting their 2025/2026 school year, and schools that have not yet returned confirmed student lists.
NELFUND further stated that it is dedicated to fairness and equitable access. NELFUND remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the delivery of sustainable student financing solutions that remove financial barriers to higher education in Nigeria, the statement added.
NELFUND stated that institutions which have not yet started their 2025/2026 academic session are expected to submit a formal request for an extension along with their approved academic calendar for consideration. They also reiterated that students should complete their applications using the official NELFUND portal before the new closing date.
