The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports that it is conducting congresses anywhere in the country, describing the claims as false and circulated by expelled members with links to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement signed by the National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, the party accused the expelled members of attempting to destroy the party and derail its democracy by aligning themselves with the APC for political appointments and other favours.
“The false information and illegal association is one of the plans in the playbook of those who had mortgaged the fate of our party to the President and the APC, in return for political appointments and other favours,” the statement read.
PDP warned members and the public to ignore reports of any planned congresses, emphasising that the party is currently focused on digital membership registration, which “has commenced and is progressing well.”
The party also assured that it will continue to keep its members updated on developments in line with “the new political realities unfolding.”
