The Airport Manager of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Ahmed Danjuma, has said that 10,000 “Go Cashless” cards have been registered since the enforcement of the new cashless toll payment system at the facility.
Mr Danjuma disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja, explaining that the temporary gridlocks recorded on Monday and in the early hours of Tuesday followed the full implementation of the nationwide cashless toll policy.
He noted that although registration for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) access cards began in August 2025, many airport users delayed compliance despite repeated sensitisation efforts by the authority.
According to him, the airport officially commenced full cashless operations on March 1 in line with the Federal Government’s directive to eliminate cash transactions at toll gates.
He said the policy is part of broader government reforms aimed at promoting transparency and optimising revenue collection, adding that previous administrations did not fully implement such measures.
Mr Danjuma emphasised that motorists must obtain their FAAN cards before arriving at the toll gate, as cash payments are no longer accepted.
“We have been announcing it before now for airport users to get their FAAN cards, so that when you get to the gate, you just tap and the barrier opens. Now, if you go to any FAAN gate and you want to pay cash, you will be disappointed because nobody will allow you to pass through,” he said.
