The Take It Back Movement, Lagos State Chapter, has announced the release of Rasheed Wasiu, who was detained following his participation in the 2020 #EndSARS protests.

In a statement signed by Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek, Lagos State Coordinator of the movement dated on 4 March 2026, the movement said Wasiu regained his freedom after his case was officially struck out, marking what it described as another milestone in its sustained campaign to secure justice for individuals allegedly wrongfully detained in the aftermath of the protests.

The group noted that since 2020, it has engaged in advocacy, legal interventions and public campaigns aimed at ensuring that affected persons are not forgotten. It listed several individuals previously released through its efforts, including Sunday Okoro, Olumide Fatai, Oluwole Yisa, Daniel Joyibo, Adigun Sodiq, Kehinde Shola, Salaudeen Kamilu, Sodiq Usseni and Azeez Isiaka.

The movement expressed appreciation to Barrister Taiwo of Citizens Gavel for taking over Wasiu’s legal representation following the death of Barrister Adeshina Ogunlana. It said his dedication and professionalism were instrumental in securing the favourable outcome.

It also paid tribute to the late Barrister Adeshina Ogunlana, commending his earlier efforts on the case and describing his legacy as inspirational in the ongoing struggle for justice and human rights.

Reaffirming its stance, the group called on relevant authorities to ensure that no Nigerian is unlawfully detained or denied fundamental rights.

“This struggle continues until justice is not only pursued but fully realised for all,” the statement concluded.
