Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has flagged off the distribution of 25 data capture machines of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to the 16 local government areas of the state to strengthen the National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment process.
Launching the initiative in Jalingo, the governor said the move was aimed at expanding access to NIN registration and ensuring more residents are captured in the national identity database.
Kefas explained that the provision of the machines forms part of his administration’s support for the Federal Government’s target of achieving 95 percent enrolment of citizens in the national identity system.
He also called on local government chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and political stakeholders to ensure the equipment is properly distributed and used strictly for its intended purpose across the state.
In her remarks, the Taraba State Coordinator of NIMC, Serah Babangida, commended the governor for providing the equipment, noting that it would significantly improve the enrolment process in the state.
According to Babangida, the launch represents more than a ceremonial event, describing it as a strategic investment in the future of Taraba residents.
She stressed that proper identity registration is crucial for accessing essential services, strengthening social protection programmes, supporting national planning, and improving security coordination.
Babangida further assured the governor that the commission would deploy the machines transparently and efficiently to ensure the desired impact across Taraba State.
