Two persons have reportedly been killed following renewed clashes between the Chobo and Bachaman communities in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident on Sunday, stating that the violence broke out on Saturday night.

According to him, heavily armed police personnel have been deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further escalation of the conflict.

“We received a report last night that suspected Chobo youths invaded Lamurde town and were shooting sporadically, prompting Bachaman youths to mobilise and confront them,” Nguroje said.

He added that the command was still awaiting full casualty reports, assuring that further developments would be communicated once confirmed.

The latest clash is part of a long-standing dispute between the two communities over land ownership. In the past six months alone, more than 30 people—mostly women—have reportedly lost their lives in related violence.

Last year, the Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, convened a peace meeting with leaders of the warring communities at the Government House in Yola in a bid to end the crisis. However, violence resumed just three days after the truce, leaving over 18 people dead.

Governor Fintiri had lifted the curfew imposed on Lamurde last month after security assessments suggested that relative peace had returned to the area.
