Today, former Labour Party presidential candidate and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi declared that the increasing insecurity in Nigeria indicates that the country is under siege.

Obi said this in a post published on his official page on X (formerly known as Twitter), where he voiced his claims about recent violent cases reported in various parts of the country.

He claimed that in the recent past terrorists overpowered some soldiers in Ngoshe community in Borno State, killing some of the security personnel and civilians and also kidnapping more than 100 women and children.

Obi also mentioned that the deaths of Nigerian soldiers are not well recognized, and he hopes that one day the fallen soldiers would get decent burials that will be attended by national leaders.

He also observed that there have always been concerns about armed groups in farms and forests in Nasarawa State, Kogi State, and Benue State, which according to him have been affecting economic activities and forcing some communities to flee.

In reference to the figures in Nasarawa, Obi argued that the attacks had displaced 14,318 civilians in the Kadarko region as internally displaced persons.

He also cited an example in Oyo State when travellers were allegedly kidnapped at night on the Kishi-Igbeti road, and he claimed that criminals also practised shootings and kidnapping in Ondo State.

Obi also reported that Kebbi State has not been left out as it has recorded its share of the attacks, with terrorists reportedly killing security officers and civilians in what he termed the third deadliest incident in the region that occurred this month.

He also referred to an attack that occurred recently in Kubwa, in the Abuja capital, where it was reported that about 19 inhabitants, including women and children, were abducted in their respective homes.

Obi added that according to these incidences, there is a general spread of insecurity in various regions of the country which is impacting citizens and security organs. He claimed that the government has the primary duty of safeguarding lives and property and that he was worried about what he termed a non response to the reports of the occurrences.

Obi further explained that the people of Nigeria need a new leadership that would focus on safety and wellbeing and urged people to work harder to ensure that the country regains security and stability.
