The Oyo State Police Command says it has commenced investigation into the death of a 26-year-old woman, Precious Mogaji, whose body was found at the Oguntula area of Ojoo, Ibadan.
The command said the incident had been widely misreported in some sections of the media as occurring in Akobo, Ibadan and involving a husband attempting to place his wife’s corpse in the trunk of a car. Police authorities described the claim as false and clarified that the case occurred in Ojoo.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, preliminary findings showed that the incident was reported to the police shortly after midnight by a good Samaritan.
“At about 0005hrs, the incident was brought to the attention of the police by a good Samaritan who reported that the victim was found lying lifeless at the entrance of the room of her boyfriend,” the statement said.
The statement noted that police officers from the Ojoo Division were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they discovered the victim’s body lying on the floor at “the doorway of the suspect’s room.”
The police said the body was forensically examined and the scene documented in line with standard investigative procedures before the corpse was evacuated to a hospital.
Authorities added that the remains have been deposited at a morgue for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
During the course of the investigation, police identified the victim’s boyfriend, Quadri Mohammed, 29, as a suspect in the case, noting that he is currently at large.
The police spokesperson said efforts were underway to apprehend the suspect, while investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death continues.
The command also urged members of the public with useful information to contact the nearest police station or reach the command through its emergency lines, while advising residents to disregard misleading reports circulating on social media.
“In view of the foregoing, the Command urges anyone with relevant information that could aid the investigation to kindly furnish the Police with such information by contacting the nearest Police Station or the Oyo State Police Command.
“While investigation continues, the Command assures members of the public that further developments will be communicated as investigation progresses and therefore urges the public to disregard misleading information currently circulating on social media,” the statement read.
