The Chairman of the Taraba State Disability Commission, Mr. Ali Mstudi Tenrika, has pledged to prioritise the welfare and well-being of persons with disabilities across the state in order to improve their living conditions.
Mr. Tenrika made the pledge during the inaugural meeting with members of the commission in Jalingo, where he outlined plans to embark on a statewide tour to determine the number of persons living with disabilities and ensure that none faces discrimination.
He explained that the commission had begun discussions on strategies to strengthen its operations, including undertaking study tours to learn best practices that would enhance service delivery to persons with disabilities in the state.
According to him, the establishment and constitution of the commission marks a significant step toward ensuring that persons with disabilities are properly recognised, protected and supported.
Tenrika commended Agbu Kefas for establishing the commission, noting that the move would not only create employment opportunities but also provide a platform to empower persons with disabilities across the state.
He further disclosed that the commission plans to identify and engage at least six persons with disabilities in each of the 16 local government areas of the state to promote inclusiveness in its programmes.
He added that persons with disabilities received little attention from previous administrations, stressing that the new initiative would help address long-standing challenges and provide the necessary support based on individual needs.
