Abuja, Nigeria
Authorities have confirmed that the fire outbreak earlier reported by AfrikTimes at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja has been successfully contained, with no casualties recorded.
In an update on Monday by the Director, Press and Public Relations (Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation) Mrs. Eno Olotu, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation said the incident occurred in the early hours of March 9 and affected the fourth floor of Block C, which houses the National Board for Technology Incubation.
According to the statement, emergency protocols were immediately activated after the fire was detected, prompting the swift deployment of personnel from the Federal Fire Service and other emergency response agencies. Their prompt intervention prevented the fire from spreading to other sections of the complex.
“All staff members on the affected floor were safely evacuated without injury,” the statement said, noting that the safety of civil servants and visitors remains a top priority.
Olotu said the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the scene, commended the emergency responders for their swift and professional handling of the situation.
She added that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the fire and to prevent a recurrence, while experts would also assess the structural integrity of the affected building.
Officials said the affected area has been secured and a comprehensive assessment is underway to determine the extent of the damage.
