In a move aimed at empowering women and boosting local economic development, the Chairman of Jalingo Local Government Council, Hon. Nuru Dantsoho, has launched a three-month poultry farming training programme for 300 women across the area.
The flag-off ceremony took place at the Hon. (Dr.) Aminu Jauro Hassan Skills Acquisition Centre located within the Local Government Secretariat in Jalingo.
The beneficiaries were drawn from all the political wards of the local government area.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Dantsoho stressed the importance of women’s empowerment in strengthening families and communities.
“Our goal is to equip these women with practical skills that will enable them to support their families and contribute meaningfully to the local economy,” he said.
He noted that poultry farming is a profitable venture and expressed confidence that the participants would succeed with the knowledge and training provided.
“Poultry farming is a lucrative business, and with the right training, I have no doubt these women will excel,” he added.
The chairman also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting women and youth through various empowerment initiatives.
“We are committed to empowering our women and youth and creating a brighter future for the people of Jalingo,” he stated.
According to him, the training will be facilitated by experienced poultry experts and will cover key areas such as breed selection, feeding, disease management and marketing strategies.
He also encouraged the participants to remain supportive of their families, describing women as key managers of the home.
The training programme is expected to run for three months, after which the participants will be awarded certificates and provided with support to enable them establish their own poultry farms.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke during the event expressed appreciation to the council chairman, describing the initiative as impactful.
According to them, the programme will help improve their livelihoods and enable them contribute to their households and the community.
They also noted that the initiative is the first of its kind in the local government area.
