The Director General of the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA) has disclosed that the Adamawa State Government, under the leadership of Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has invested about ₦12 billion to support micro and small businesses across the state, with women emerging as the largest beneficiaries.
The DG made the disclosure while receiving members of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Adamawa State chapter, led by its Chairperson, Felicia Amos Dauda.
He explained that PAWECA is responsible for implementing several empowerment initiatives of the state government, adding that the administration of Governor Fintiri remains committed to reducing poverty and stimulating economic growth through targeted support for micro and small enterprises.
According to him, the ₦12 billion investment forms part of broader efforts to strengthen entrepreneurship and improve livelihoods across Adamawa State.
The PAWECA boss also commended the increasing participation of women in journalism in the state, noting that their unity, professionalism, and dedication continue to strengthen the media landscape.
In her remarks, NAWOJ Chairperson, Felicia Amos Dauda, said many women in the state have benefited from the Fintiri Business Wallet Empowerment Programme, describing the initiative as impactful and transformative for families and small-scale entrepreneurs.
She added that NAWOJ is ready to partner with PAWECA by leveraging its media platforms to raise awareness about the programme so that more women and vulnerable groups can access its benefits.
Meanwhile, the PAWECA Director General also received an Award of Excellence from the Nigerian Youth Council. The award was presented by the council’s Vice President, Abdulmalik Isa, in recognition of the DG’s leadership and dedication to implementing social support programmes in Adamawa State.
Responding, the DG expressed appreciation for the recognition, saying the award would further motivate him to intensify efforts in empowering youths and vulnerable groups.
He also commended Governor Fintiri for his vision in supporting young people through seed capital and skills acquisition programmes, while encouraging youths to remain committed to personal development and contribute meaningfully to critical sectors of society.
