The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has backed the indefinite suspension of the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the National Assembly, Ireti Kingibe, following disciplinary action taken against her by her ward in Wuse, FCT.
The party’s chapter in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday defended the decision, accusing the lawmaker of withholding funds meant for campaign activities during the recent Area Council elections in the territory.
In an open letter addressed to members of the party’s National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress, the FCT Publicity Secretary of the party, Samuel Chukwudi Nwigbo, questioned the senator’s commitment to the party.
The letter, titled “The Many Sins of Distinguished Senator Ireti and Why Her Suspension is Justifiable,” accused the lawmaker of failing to openly campaign for the party during a major election conducted within her constituency.
According to the party, the senator also provided an office for the party but later retrieved it under what it described as “strange circumstances” without offering any justification. The party further lamented that despite having a sitting senator, the ADC in the FCT has been forced to hold strategic meetings outdoors.
“Till date, the ADC FCT is still holding important strategic meetings under trees even when we have a sitting senator,” the party said.
As at the time of filing this report, Senator Kingibe is yet to make any clarification.
