Three persons have died while five others were rescued after a passenger bus plunged into the Ariyo River along Amunloko Road in Ibadan on Wednesday.
The incident involved a Suzuki bus with registration number LEW 484 XA (Osun) carrying eight passengers, according to the Oyo State Fire Service Agency.
In a statement issued by the agency, officials said the vehicle lost control and crashed into the river, prompting an emergency response from fire service personnel.
The agency said its officers, led by CFS Adesina, were deployed to the scene after a distress call was received at about 3:38 p.m.
Five occupants of the vehicle were rescued alive and taken to a private hospital in the Jegede area of Ona Ara Local Government Area for medical attention.
The statement noted that the bodies of the remaining three victims were later recovered and handed over to officers from the Nigeria Police Force at the Ogbere Divisional Headquarters.
Officials of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) and the Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government Area, Glorious Temitope, were also present at the scene.
The fire service attributed the accident to reckless driving and urged motorists to observe road safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
