The First Lady of Yobe State, Hafsat Kollere Buni, has distributed food items to 2,000 vulnerable women across the state as part of efforts to support them during the holy month of Ramadan.

Hajiya Buni, who also serves as the state coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), said the intervention was aimed at providing relief to widows and other vulnerable women across the 17 local government areas of the state during the fasting period.

Represented at the distribution ceremony by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Mairo Ahmad Amshi, the First Lady said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to empower women, strengthen community resilience, and support vulnerable populations.

She emphasised that such interventions are vital in tackling food insecurity and improving the welfare of women across the state.

According to her, the Ramadan support packages contained essential food items such as rice, spaghetti and cooking oil, aimed at easing the burden on beneficiaries during the sacred month.

She added that the programme not only provides food assistance but also offers renewed hope and encouragement to vulnerable women in communities across the state.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for the Yobe State Ministry of Women Affairs, Yajalo Badama, said the gesture aligns with the vision and leadership of Mai Mala Buni, who consistently encourages government officials to support the less privileged.

Badama noted that the humanitarian intervention reflects the spirit of compassion associated with Ramadan and reinforces the people-centred leadership approach of the governor.

She added that the initiative also demonstrates the administration’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of governance reach every community, particularly the most vulnerable.
