The House of Representatives has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently direct security agencies to launch a coordinated joint operation to flush out terrorists responsible for the recent killings in Adamawa State.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the Chairman of the House Committee on Political Parties, Hon. Zakaria Nyampa.
The lawmakers expressed concern over the killing of 27 residents of Shewari community in Krinchinga, Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, by attackers suspected to be members of the Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorist groups.
Presenting the motion, Hon. Nyampa said the attack, which occurred on February 23, 2026, also left several residents injured and resulted in the destruction of properties.
He stressed the need for the Federal Government to take decisive action to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
According to him, the House was deeply worried about the persistent attacks by terrorists, noting that the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) clearly states that the security and welfare of citizens remain the primary responsibility of government.
Following deliberations, the House urged President Tinubu to direct the Chief of Defence Staff, the Director General of the Department of State Services and the Inspector General of Police to immediately initiate a coordinated joint security operation, including aerial surveillance, to track down and eliminate the terrorists responsible for the attack.
The lawmakers also observed a minute silence in honour of the 27 victims who lost their lives in the attack.
To cushion the impact of the incident on affected residents, the House further urged the Federal Government to direct the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Poverty Reduction, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons to urgently provide relief materials to victims in Shewari and Krinchinga communities of Madagali Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, the House also raised alarm over the escalating wave of killings in communities within the Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency of Benue State.
This followed the adoption of another motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon. Terseer Ugbor, the member representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency.
While presenting the motion, Hon. Ugbor condemned what he described as coordinated attacks by armed mercenaries and bandits on several communities in Kwande Local Government Area in recent weeks, leading to loss of lives, destruction of property and the displacement of residents.
He recalled that on February 3, 2026, attackers invaded Abande and Anwase communities in the Turan district, killing at least 17 people, including a Mobile Police officer, while many others sustained injuries and homes, farmlands and livelihoods were destroyed.
Ugbor noted that similar attacks were also reported in Anem and Tomataan communities in Ikyurav-Ya, as well as parts of Ikyov in Ushongo Local Government Area.
He further revealed that another deadly attack occurred on March 5, 2026, when armed assailants killed 16 people in Mbaav community in Mbadura Council Ward and Mbachoon community, including nearby areas in Yaav Council Ward.
According to him, plans were underway for a mass burial of some of the victims who lost their lives in the attacks.
The lawmaker, who conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the affected communities on March 8, 2026, noted that although a full battalion of the Nigerian Army had been deployed to the area, the troops were facing operational challenges that limited their effectiveness.
He also raised concerns that the operational mandate of the deployed troops appeared unclear, questioning whether the mission was intended as peacekeeping or a full combat operation aimed at flushing out armed groups operating in the area.
Ugbor warned that the porous Nigeria–Cameroon border corridor around Benue State had created easy entry and exit routes for armed groups, providing them with safe havens in ungoverned areas.
The House therefore called on the Federal Government and security agencies to urgently strengthen military operations in the affected communities to halt the attacks and restore peace.
