Taraba Mobile Court Impounds Trucks Over Alleged Illegal Mining in Wukari

The Taraba State Mobile Court on Environmental Protection, Public Safety and Prohibition of Deforestation has impounded several trucks allegedly involved in illegal mining activities along the Wukari–Chinkai axis in Wukari Local Government Area of the state.

The enforcement operation was carried out on Friday following a patrol by officials of the mobile court along the Wukari highway.

According to information gathered by Daily Post, the officials intercepted several trucks transporting coal and other solid minerals suspected to have been mined illegally.

An official of the mobile court, who spoke to our reporter, said the vehicles were immediately impounded while the suspects were summarily tried in line with the provisions of the executive order regulating environmental protection and mining activities in the state.

The officials stressed that the action serves as a strong warning that Executive Order No. 5 remains in force and will continue to be strictly enforced across Taraba State.

They also advised residents and operators in the mining sector to desist from engaging in illegal mining activities, warning that violators would face the full weight of the law.

According to the authorities, illegal mining poses serious environmental threats, including land degradation, risks to human survival, disruption of food security, and increased danger to public safety.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
