As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum, former spokesperson of the 8th House of Representatives, Abdulrazak Namdas, has declared his intention to contest for the governorship of Adamawa State.
Namdas, who currently serves as the North-East representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), made the declaration during an Iftar dinner he hosted for stakeholders in Abuja over the weekend.
The former lawmaker, who also served as Chairman of the House Committee on Army in the 9th House of Representatives, said his decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and other key figures across the state.
According to him, his experience as a media practitioner, legislator, and security and strategic expert has prepared him to lead the state.
“I believe I possess the capacity and expertise to advance our state, drawing on my experience as a media practitioner, legislator, and security and strategic expert,” he said.
Namdas commended the achievements of the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, noting that the administration has made significant strides in infrastructure, welfare, education, healthcare, and sports.
He added that Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently acknowledged these achievements when he visited the state to commission several projects.
“In light of this, I believe a capable leader is needed to consolidate these gains and further advance progress in other sectors, such as agriculture, rural development, and security,” he said.
Appealing for support from stakeholders present at the gathering, Namdas said their experience in politics and governance would be valuable in shaping his aspiration.
“I have invited you here because I recognise the calibre of individuals you are. Many of you have contested and won elections before, which means you are well-positioned to advise and support me in achieving my goals,” he said.
Highlighting the state’s economic potential, Namdas said Adamawa is endowed with abundant mineral and agricultural resources that could drive development if properly harnessed.
He listed mineral deposits such as gypsum, limestone, magnesite, kaolin, and bentonite found in areas including Gombi, Guyuk, Numan, Lamurde, Ganye, and Yola South local government areas.
He also noted that the state enjoys rich agricultural resources, including cash crops, food crops, and livestock production, which he said inspired his decision to run for the state’s top office.
“This is not a manifesto night but a meeting with key stakeholders. I want to give you a glimpse of what to expect if I become governor of the state, so that you can provide me with fair and honest advice,” he added.
Namdas represented the Jada/Ganye/Mayo-Belwa/Toungo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2023.
His latest declaration marks his second attempt at the governorship, having previously contested as the deputy governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the 2011 gubernatorial election in Adamawa State.
