Two bomb blasts have reportedly occurred in Maiduguri, Borno State, causing panic among residents.
The explosions were said to have taken place at two strategic locations in the city: the main gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and the Monday Market area near Elkalemi.
A resident of Gomari Kostin in Maiduguri said people fled the area as security operatives, including the military and police, rushed to the scenes to control the situation.
Casualties had not been confirmed at the time of filing this report.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Borno State, Nahum Daso Kenneth, confirmed the incidents, stating that joint security operatives and emergency responders had been deployed to the affected locations.
“Following reports of a suspected explosion at Maiduguri Monday Market and UMTH gate at about 7:20 pm, joint security operatives and emergency responders have been deployed. Police EOD Unit, Base 13 Maiduguri, is on ground. Residents are advised to remain calm and avoid the area while assessments continue,” he said.
